September Seminars


PRODUCTIVITY HOUR
EVERY MONDAY IN SEPTEMBER 2025
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Main Library at Goodwood
Room A or F, Second Floor

The Career Center’s Productivity Hour is for workers of all stripes – even students and hobbyists and non-busy-bodies. Bring your laptop, literature or project and join us for an hour-long session of productivity. Participants are expected to work quietly, but at the end of the session will be asked to share their progress.

Free Wi-fi access will be available, along with pen and paper, and light refreshments. Laptops are available upon request. Ages 16 and up are welcome to attend.
No registration required - just show up with your project!


EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING & TIME MANAGEMENT

Dr. Brandy Tyson of Prep Academy Tutors leads this workshop aimed at helping
children, teens, and young adults improve their executive functioning.
She will discuss ways to help students stay focused, organized, and ready to learn.
This program is intended to boost students' success in school, ability to manage responsibilities, and build confidence. There will be scenario challenges and self-checks.


HOW TO GET A STATE OR CITY CIVIL SERVICE JOB

Civil service offers good benefits, job security, and a wide range of career options.
Come to this seminar to learn all about State and City/Parish job openings
and how to apply for them.

Our two guest speakers come from the Louisiana Department of Civil Service and
the City of Baton Rouge/Parish of EBR's Recruitment and Examination Division.


APPRENTICESHIP 101: GET PAID TO LEARN!

Skilled trades are some of the most in-demand careers and well paid.
Come and learn how you can thrive in these fields and earn money while you learn through a Registered Apprenticeship.

Speakers from the Louisiana Apprenticeship Program as well as companies hiring apprentices will be present to explain the process, discuss requirements,
and let you know how to thrive in an apprenticeship.

This event is for people seeking a career through an apprenticeship as well as for companies wishing to learn more about how to cooperate with the Louisiana Apprenticeship Program and become part of it.
